Magnetic System Filter Manchester
A magnetic system filter catches iron oxide sludge before it reaches your boiler. New boiler warranties often require one to be fitted. If you've had a power flush, a filter stops the sludge coming back.
A filter only works if the rest is done right
Fitting the filter is the straightforward part. What matters is that it goes on the return in the right orientation, with isolation valves so it can actually be serviced without draining the system.
Once it's in, I add inhibitor — a protective chemical that stops rust and sludge forming in the first place. Without it you're catching debris but doing nothing to stop more of it appearing.
It gets checked and cleaned at each annual service, and it's included yearly on the Gold membership plan where one is fitted and safely accessible.

Common questions
FAQs
Does my new boiler need a magnetic filter?
Most manufacturer warranties now require a magnetic filter to be fitted. Worcester Bosch, Vaillant and others state this clearly. Fitting one protects your warranty and your boiler.
Which filter brand do you use?
Typically Adey MagnaClean or equivalent, sized to suit your system. I'll confirm the specification when I quote.
How often does the filter need cleaning?
Once a year, at your annual boiler service. I include this for Gold members. Non-members pay £45 added to any visit.
Can I fit a magnetic filter myself?
It requires soldering or push-fit connections to your pipework and needs to be in the right position to work. It is a job for a plumber or Gas Safe engineer.
